Student Advisory Centre, Jamaica

At the request of respective administrative personnel at the Faculty of the Built Environment (FOBE), University of Technology, Jamaica, we had the awesome task of designing the interior space for the old Student Records room. The room was to be transformed to become the new Student Advisement Center where FOBE students and prospects would receive pertinent academic information on a person-to- person basis.

Given the anticipated confidentiality involved, the petite room were spotted with greenery and de Stijl inspired furniture – promoting privacy where appropriate. They were also essential in absorbing sound and alluding an overall aura of warmth and trust.

Soothing colours such as warm yellows, oranges and leaf-greens decorated the space. Still, natural timber proposed for the custom de Stijl furniture together with the earth-inspired colours and greenery solidified a sense-of- trust.

Inspirational quotes from past and present visionaries of the institution coupled with design work of students
concluded the articulated space where the visitor in true de Stijl form, would become new, more informed and assured.
