Project "Pause", Jamaica

Project Pause is a space designed to promote temporary reflection, mingling, education and inspiration for the Caribbean School of Architecture (CSA) students. Just as the word implies, the intention of the outdoor space is to provide a temporal ‘break’ in a student’s day.

The rectilinear geometry of the existing architecture frames the outdoor space while also framing the adjacent trees depending on one’s perspective. The use of simple cube-shaped stools along with the incorporation of flora creates a spiritual and reflective realm – giving a sense of purity to the PAUSE space.

Finally, the existing mosaic wall having been a staple of CSA’s architectural complexion for years, act as a fitting backdrop to the space – providing a sense of school pride and identity.
